Family and The Early Years

Jay was born in Barberton, Ohio in 1970 and grew up in the Manchester area, graduating from Manchester High School in 1988.  He taught for nine years and was a school administrator for nine years at Northwest Local Schools in Canal Fulton, Ohio.  Jay married his beloved wife, Courtney, in 2002 and God has blessed them with two beautiful children, Emily and Jared.

In 1979, the Lord sent a church bus into Jay’s neighborhood and brought him to the Akron Baptist Temple where he heard the gospel message preached from John 3:16 and received Jesus Christ as his Savior.  Shortly after receiving Christ, he submitted himself in front of the congregation of the Baptist Temple to be baptized as a public testimony of the spiritual work God had done in his life.  God put several men in Jay’s life such as, Ernie Kemppel, Bruce Fitzgerald, and Mike Dimoff who personally discipled (invested time and labor) him to better understand God’s word and plans.

Ministry Training

After receiving a Bachelor’s degree from Liberty University in Early/Middle Education (1992) and a Master’s Degree in School Administration from the University of Akron (2000), Jay spent four years training in the Jackson Bible Institute, graduating in 2006.  In August 2011, Jay resigned as a principal at Northwest Schools to follow the Lord in full-time ministry at the First Baptist Church of Jackson.  He believes God used all of his training and experiences in discipleship, public education, and church ministries to prepare him for full-time ministry.  He was ordained September 16th, 2012.

Church Ministry

Jay began ministering in his local church during high school as a summer camp counselor, an AWANA Jr. High leader, on a high school door to door witnessing team (STREET), as a member of a high school singing group (ABT Chorale), participating in a nursing home visitation ministry, and participating in a mission trip to Puerto Rico.  After college, he served several years as song leader in two churches, ministered in the Jr. High ministry at First Baptist Church of New Philadelphia, and was in charge of the high school ministry at First Baptist Church of Jackson for 13 years.  Jay participated in mission trips to Russia, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, and London.  He  served as a deacon at First Baptist Church for 11 years and has been involved in many fruitful one-on-one discipleship relationships during his years of ministry.

Ministry Today

Jay serves as an associate pastor, teaches and preaches in the Jackson Bible Institute, leads the music during worship services, ministers in various capacities in the pulpit ministry, and is active in several one-on-one discipleship relationships.
