Spiritual Qualifications | First Baptist Church of Jackson

Any person in leadership or service at FBCJ (e.g. pastoral staff, deacons, ushers, Sunday school teacher, Bible study leader, etc.) must fulfill the following qualifications for leadership (James 3:1; Luke 6:40):

1. I have accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior (Romans 10:9-10).
2. I am a Covenant Member of FBCJ or, as a student, have been approved by leadership to serve.
3. I adhere to the doctrinal statement and philosophy of ministry (methodology, discipleship, etc.) of FBCJ (Phil. 2:2).
4. I provide systematic, sacrificial financial support for the ministry (2 Cor. 8:8; 9:6-7).
5. I have a good report with both the lost and saved. I am known for a dedicated Christian life, according to the standards of God’s word; in “gray” areas, I have a testimony that is helpful and not a hindrance. (1 Cor. 9:19-27).

Please confirm you fulfill the following qualifications for leadership and service at FBCJ.

6. I shall endeavor to live a life of example in the following ways (1 Cor. 11:1):

a. Meeting God regularly in a set time of private personal devotions (Dan. 6:10; Acts 3:1; 17:11).
b. Participating in the body life of my church (Heb. 10:24-25).
c. Stewardship of time, talent, and treasure, serving God through our church (Mal. 3:10; Matt. 23:23; 1 Cor. 16:2).
d. Seeking to grow in love and sympathy for other Christians and people everywhere (John 13:35; 1 John 3:14).
e. Witnessing Christ consistently in word and deed (Matt. 5:16; Acts 1:8).
f. Striving to keep peace and unity within the Body of Christ by avoiding gossip, slander, and a critical, unforgiving spirit (Matt. 7:1-5; Eph. 4:3; 1 Peter 4:8).

Please confirm your commitment to live as an example in the following ways.

In conclusion, I, by God's grace, will pursue with all my heart to fulfill these particular qualifications of leadership and to carry out my membership covenant promises to God as well as to the other members of our church family. If I fail to perform these requirements at any time, I will, without delay, seek resolve and/or immediately remove myself from service. Praise be to God for the privilege and responsibility of serving him faithfully.
